The latest installment in Ford’s pony-car story. In this chapter the current Mustang that borrows heavily from the 1965–67 version gets restyled to look like the 1970 Mustang—how original. A mid-’70s Mustang II can’t be far behind. An all-new interior purported to be far richer and more attractive will also debut. It's new design featured the Big V-8, rear-wheel drive, and it is affordable, attractive. The platform is still unchanged. It has a 4.0-liter V-6 powers base versions, with a new direct-injection, turbocharged Ecoboost 3.5-liter V-6 coming in 2010. By 2011 the Mustang should get Ford's new, more efficient modular 5.0-liter, SOHC V-8, good for about 350 horsepower. Be grateful you can still get a V-8 and rear-wheel drive for less than $30,000.

On the current Mustang the Ford guys thought having color-changing instrument lights was cutting-edge technology. It faces competition from Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger. The price of gas might be something you got to think about. The new Mustang is set to debut at the Los Angeles auto show this fall. Production and sales should begin next spring. Prices will start in the low-$20,000 range for a basic V-6 version and rise well over $30,000 for a loaded-up GT.
